Fungus in a Box

We were very excited when, upon opening a Christmas present from Judy, we found a "Grow Your Own Mushrooms" kit. For those of you who are used to growing your own food, whether it be tomatoes in a pot or an orchard full of fruit, you must know the thrill you get when something starts pushing up through the soil.

In our case, it's mushrooms. And they grow in a cardboard box in our fairly-dim dining room. They've just started to bloom (do mushrooms "bloom"?) this week, and according to the labeling, they are portobello.  

Needless to say, we're excited to pluck those fungi out of the box and get cooking. But we'll wait till they've grown just a wee bit more.
